The Samsung Galaxy S7 will be here in less than a month, and we have all the details on what you need to know about this impressive new device.
Following the tech company’s aesthetic redesign of the Galaxy with the S6, Samsung is bringing back some of your favorite features with the S7 along with plenty of new bells and whistles that should give that other smartphone a run for its money.
One thing that consumers are sure to be excited about is the renewed support of expandable storage.
Unlike its predecessor, the Galaxy S7 will allow for up to 200 gigabytes of MicroSD storage. That comes on top of an internal 32 gb capacity, which in total makes for the largest available storage on the market. That means plenty of space for all your favorite apps and, more importantly, your photos and videos.
With the advent of high-resolution smartphone cameras, the file sizes of pictures and videos have continued to balloon. There’s nothing worse than going to take a selfie only to discover that you’re out of storage space.
To put the sheer volume of space in perspective, that’s 50,000 songs or 200,000 photos (at around 1 MB per shot).
And speaking of those hi-res cameras, the Galaxy S7 has one of the best. In fact, the S7 will have the world’s first dual-pixel smartphone camera that will allow for faster autofocus, leaving blurry photos in the past.
A report from USA Today states that the camera will be able to focus faster than the competing iPhone, allowing users to capture those “blink or you’ll miss it moments.” A low-light sensor helps to capture clearer images, regardless of the lighting of the room or time of day.
The Galaxy will also feature a much larger battery, with a 3000 mAh non-removable battery in the S7 and a 3600 mAh battery in the S7 Edge. These batteries dwarf those of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, which are rated at 1715 mAh and 2750 mAh. This will come in handy when you consider yet another long-awaited feature of the Galaxy, the option to have it always on.
Gizmodo reports that the device will utilize an AMOLED display that is highly energy efficient alongside its Snapdragon 820 processor, which allows you to access calendars and notifications without draining the battery.
Also, among the fascinating new features is the incredible level of water resistance of the device.
According to Verizon Wireless, the phone will boast an impressive IP68 rating. This means that the device will be able to defend itself from the worst spills and splashes and that it can withstand full submersion in water. This will come as welcome news to anyone that has spent a sleepless night with their phone buried in a bowl of rice.
Android lovers looking to upgrade will definitely be in for a treat when the new Galaxy hits the market, and we can’t wait to get our hands on this phone to check out everything in person. The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will be available March 11, 2016.
