Don’t expect an Apple Watch 2 in March, it may just be a S update

Apple is rumoured to be hosting a new event in March with the iPhone 5SE, iPad Air 3 and Apple Watch 2 all tipped to appear – but it now seems the 2016 version of the wearable won’t be as exciting as we had first expected.

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster has said he believes the wearables hardware will get a slight refresh in March, but it won’t be a big enough update for it to be called the Apple Watch 2.

Munster said, “Expect more of an “S” version with similar design, upgraded components including processor, battery, new band styles.

“Unlikely to have a wireless radio, which would allow standalone (i.e. decoupled from iPhone).”

Dubious ground

Munster has been wrong in the past though. He’s notorious for repeatedly predicting the release of the refreshed Apple TV back in 2011, all the way until it was finally released at the end of 2015.

But what happens to the Apple Watch sequel is an interesting talking point right now. Trusted Apple expect Mark Gurman has been predicting the Apple Watch to just get new bands and a software update this year.

What Apple has in store for us is up in the air right now and what we’ll see at the March 15 event is still unclear, but it’s certainly exciting.
